It's a work in progress.

That's the best way I can sum up the Bryan County News' latest online venture, Sports Central, which is dedicated to providing prep sports fans with a 'one stop shop' for local varsity sports.

Particularly fans, boosters, students, alumni and other followers of Bryan County High School and Richmond Hill High School sports. Both schools now have their own pages - which you can access from the top of this page - but you also can check out sites for other area schools, from Bradwell Institute or Liberty County to Statesboro and Bullocah Academy.

There are schedules for football - and I'll get softball schedules up soon as I can - along with maps to games ... and at some point rosters of BCHS and RHHS teams.

In time, my hopes is this site will be as all inclusive as we can make it. Ultimately, this will be the online sports section for Bryan County prep sports.

But for starters, (as you've probably noticed) we're going to concentrate on football and softball with text, photos and some video - and update the site as often as possible.

And by we I mean yours truly, who will keep an eye on the site and provide whatever backup I can, and more importantly, BCHS correspondent Tim Traywick, BCHS senior Shelby Traywick, Michelle Seeger and RHHS coorespondent Terry Logan, plus a few others who are still weighing whether or not they can invest the time.

We're always looking for more help, by the way. If you're interested, shoot me an email at jwhitten@bryancountynews.net. I also welcome any and all suggestions on how to make this thing better.

In addition, we have 'the fan zone' where you can upload your sports photos and pix of cheerleaders, the band, fans, etc, plus upcoming events such as booster club meetings. I'll also welcome JV fans, coaches and players to submit stories, photos and other information through this venue.
And, as always, you're invited to share your thoughts by blogging. Just remember to keep it clean and play nice.

I've gone on long enough. My guess is we'll have our fair share of growing pains as we figure out how to make this the best online sports site we can, but it should be fun.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to hearing from you.
