
The Richmond Hill High School Wildcat marching band traveled to Fayetteville, GA Saturday and came away with an impressive 4th place finish out of 16 bands participating from across the state. The Wildcat band for the second week in a row was once again rated superior overall with a score in the preliminaries of 29.30 out of a possible 30. They took 1st place band in Class 4AAAA and placed 2nd in both the Color Guard and Percussion categories. These accomplishments in the prelims were more than enough to put the band into the evening finals which saw 8 bands march for the coveted Grand Champion Award.
The Wildcat band was up against several very tough opponents in Lassiter High an 8 time Region winner of the National Band of America Competition's and the National Defending Champions of 2007; Lassister is also internationally recognized as they are authorized to travel to overseas events as well. Other Opponents included East Coweta, also an internationally recognized band that will travel later this year to Australia. The host band the Fayetteville, GA Tiger Marching Band is also internationally recognized and will be traveling to London, England for a second time. The only other band from the greater Savannah area to participate in the event was the South Effingham Mustang Band, an old foe of the Wildcats; the Mustang band failed to move forward into the final round.
The Wildcat band will close out their marching competition season at the 29th Annual Old South Marching Festival and Competition on November 1st in Newnan, GA. Competition specifics can be found on the Prep Sports Central website in the Upcoming Events header. (More to follow)
