In a rare Saturday morning game, the Richmond Hill Wildcats held off the Bryan County Redskins for a season opening 24-22 win. The game was pushed from Friday night to Saturday due to lightning delays and an eventual power outage.   The Wildcats started the morning where they left off Friday night with the ball on the Bryan County 35 yard line and soon found themselves on the scoreboard when Matt Williams hit Shaquille Walker for a six yard touchdown. Lori Barnes kicked the extra point to make the score 7-0. We were able to move the ball both on the ground and in the air in the first half and that was crucial to us winning today,” RHHS coach Brian Brocato said. .  The Redskins answered back as they moved the ball from their own 30 yard line behind the running of Winston Johnson and soon found themselves with first and goal at the one before Johnson punched it in for the touchdown on a quarterback sneak. Deloach ran it in for the 2-point conversion to put Bryan County ahead 8-7.  Richmond Hill recovered the ensuing onside kick and started their next drive at their own 49 yard line before Williams hooked up on a 51 yard pass to Zach Young for another touchdown and Barnes added the extra-point to put the Wildcats up again, 14-8.  With 3:31 left in the first quarter, Bryan County started a drive on its own 36 and kept the drive alive with a 19-yard run on a fourth down fake punt by Deloach and moved the ball on down to the Wildcat 14 yard line before Ivey Mutcherson rambled in for another Redskin touchdown. Deloach ran in for the 2-point conversion to put Bryan County back on top  at 16-14. Williams soon hooked up with Walker again for a 18-yard touchdown pass with Barnes adding the extra point to make the score 21-16 with 6:31 left in the half.Richmond Hill added three more points before the half ended with a field goal by Sam Vernon to bump the score to 24-16.  Bryan County came out in the second half and slowed down the surging Wildcats and both teams battled back and forth without any scoring until 30 seconds left in the game. Deandre Walker punched it in from three yards out to close the gap at 24-22, but saw a game tying 2-point conversion attempt pass fall incomplete to end the game. “We definitely have some areas we need to work on and we will continue to do that, but I was pleased with the effort I saw from our players today,” Redskins coach Ron Lewis said. “They never gave up.”
