To the victors, go the spoils. Or in Richmond Hill High School's case, the postseason honors.
Not long after wrapping up a region title and a second-straight appearance in the Class AAA quarterfinals, the Lady Wildcats dominated Region 3-AAA again by placing nine players on the All-Region team.
The team was selected by region coaches.
“All-Region is the final recognition of a players level of skill and competitiveness. Congratulations are in order for all of the girls who made the team," said Coach Steve Kollman, whose team finished 16-4-0 overall and 10-0 in the region.
Six Lady Wildcats were first team selections. Three made the second team.
High Schoring forwards Lindsey Vasher, a junior, and Sarah Goolsby, a sophomore, were first team selections. Vasher led the team in scoring with 38 goals and 26 assists. Goolsby wasn't far behind with 34 goals and 15 assists.
Joining them on the first team were junior midfielder Caitlin Uhlig, who had four assists and two goals and freshman midfielder Kayla Taylor, who scored five goals and notched six assists.
Defenders Elizabeth Campbell, a junior, and senior Anna Bausum also made first team.
Second team selections included senior midfielder Whitney Regan, freshman defender Sarah Mazur and senior goalkeeper Gaby Parker.
Regan had 10 goals for the Lady Wildcats. Parker, who started 15 games, gave up 14 goals while posting 10 shutouts. She had 45 saves for Richmond Hill, which claimed its second consecutive Region 3-AAA title.
“These type of awards are wonderful in that they reflect the respect that the coaches across the region have for an individual players accomplishments, but all of these girls would tell you that they were only able to play at a high level because of the contributions made by their teammates," Kollman said. "From early February, all the way through mid-May, these student athletes were able to overcome the many obstacles presented to them and still compete on a level with the best in the state. Their level of commitment will benefit RHHS Soccer as it maneuvers the waters of class AAAA next year.”
