The State Class A track and field meet was recently completed and the girls of Bryan County High school finished in the Top 10 as they took 10th place overall with 26 points.
The hard work put in since last year came to fruition as the girls were the only area team to finish in the Top 10, while improving their overall score from 2009.
Coach Blake Nesmith commented, “All our girls ran as fast or faster than their previous runs and our competition was intense. We worked them hard all year and had them compete against some strong  competition and that helped us improve this year. I am proud of our improvement.”
Kimberly Williams competed individually in the championship in the high jump event and tied for the championship with a 5-foot, 2-inch jump.
She lost the tiebreaker that was based on the number of misses at the winning height. Her competition completed her jump on the second attempt while it took Williams three attempts.
Williams competed also in the 300-meter hurdles and came in sixth place with a 49.26 second showing and in the 4x400-meter relay event she joined the team of Bridget Bacon, Samantha Howard and Tiffany Howard to take seventh place.
Tiffany Howard also had a strong showing at State, where she came in third place in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet and one-half inch. She took fourth place in the 800-meter run and closed out in seventh place in the 1,600-meter run.
The following girls competed but did not qualify to reach the finals: 4x100-meter relay team of Tiffany Howard, Bridget Bacon, Sierra Newman, and Kimberly Williams; 100 meters, Sierra Newman; and 400 meters, Samantha Howard.
