The Wildcats finished their regular season this past Friday in a region contest that had no bearing on the teams playoff situation
Win or lose, Richmond Hill was assured of a second place finish in region 3-AAA and will host the number 3 seed Troup County from region 2-AA Friday for a double header starting at 4:30 p.m..
But someone forgot to tell Kevin Matthews.
Richmond Hill beat first place Thomson 2-0 to sweep the season series with the Bulldogs, handing them their only two losses in the region. Matthews pitched six strong innings, striking out the side the first four innings and finishing with 14 strikeouts, allowing one hit.
Cody Crow got the save by striking out two of the final three batters. Crow also scored the game's first unearned run after walking aboard in the first inning and senior catcher Cody Rushing added some insurance with a fifth inning solo homerun.
Playoffs start Friday
Richmond Hill High School will host the school’s first state Class AAA playoff series beginning Friday when Troup County comes to town. The Wildcats finished second in Region 3-AAA.
