The Bryan County High school basketball season said goodbye nearly two months ago, but the memories of this past season still linger and was brought to life again on Thursday night, April 15 at the annual Awards Night held in the BCHS cafeteria. With both the girls and boys squads on hand for this night of recognition, parents, friends, administrators and coaches watched as players received participation certificates and accepted achievement awards for their outstanding performances throughout the 2009-2019 season.
 The Lady ‘Skins basketball team did an about face from the previous 2008-2009 record of (4-16, 1-9) and put themselves in the win mode and finished with a (19-8, 8-4) record. This young Redskins’ squad took another positive step when they reached the Region playoffs and took down Truetlen County for a first round win. They also qualified for the State playoffs , but lost in the first round. This gigantic step of basketball success was a team effort, but several of the Lady ‘Skins led the way and took home individual awards presented by head coach, Mario Mincey.
Rookie of the Year-Jessica Hendricks, Most Improved- Kim Williams, Best Rebounder- Satashala Beasley, Workhorse Award- Whitney Fields, Best Defensive Player- Tiffany Howard, Best Offensive Award- Olivia Melvin, Coaches Award- Ashleigh Simmons, Red Bowers Award- Samantha Howard, Most Valuable Player- Olivia Melvin.
The Bryan County boys didn’t have as much success as the girls, but it was not because of lack of effort and even though they finished with a (7-16, 1-11) record, there were several players that deserved and earned awards for their season performances from head coach, Allen Clark. Best Offensive Player- Winston Johnson, Best Free-Throw Shooter- Winston Johnson, Best Rebounder- Rodney Mutcherson, Most Charges- Albert Chavis, Most Improved- Joe Jenkins.
