The Redskin baseball team almost won their first region contest but lost by one point in an 8-7 heartbreaker to Savannah Country Day Wednesday.

The game was looking dim for BCHS in the second inning as SCD had a 7-2 lead. The Redskins rallied for 2 runs in the third, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie the game 7-7.

"At the bottom of the seventh, with two runners on, we missed the opportunity to win the game," BCHS Coach Tony Dragon said. "I feel like we played our best game though, and I’m optimistic moving forward."

The Redskins had 13 hits and only one error. Lead hitters were Ryan Poythress (3 for 4 with a 2-run homerun), Garrett Riggleman (2 for 4 with an RBI) and Cody Crowe (2 for 3 with 3 runs scored).

Crowe also pitched the complete game with 13 strikeouts.

BCHS (0-4, 0-1) played their second region game Friday at Claxton, but results were not available at press time. Saturday is BCHS Diamond Day which entails two home games, versus Groves and Montgomery County. Game times are 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
