The Bryan County High school Lady 'Skins basketball team saw their season come to a end Feb. 27 while playing in the first round of the Class A girls State basketball tournament.

Bryan County drew the No.3 ranked Class A squad of Taylor County ( 27-1), a team that has posted a 78-8 win/loss record over the last three years.

Bryan County, a team who only won five games the previous two years, fell 62-44 to finished with a 19-8 record.

Bryan County held their own with Taylor County throughout the first quarter, but too many second quarter turnovers allowed the Lady Vikings to go in at halftime with a fifteen point lead at 33-18.

Bryan County coach Mario Mincey summed up the situation: "We simply did what we knew we couldn't do and that was turn the ball over, but that is what we did in the second quarter and gave them some easy baskets."

There were not enough shovels in the tool box to allow the Lady 'Skins to dig themselves out of the hole they had put themselves in, but as they have done all year, the young Bryan County squad battled to the end before coming up on the losing end.

'' I give credit to my team, they kept fighting, Mincey said. "We battled back in the second half , but we never could make up the ground we had lost. I kept trying to preach to them that against a team of this caliber you just have to keep fighting and that is what they did and I am proud of them for that."

Bryan County's Olivia Melvin led all scorers with 26 points.
