The BCHS girls basketball team lost 67-59 to Calvary in the region playoffs Friday – and fell 71-44 to Savannah Christian in Saturday’s consolation game, but the Lady Redskins have already earned the right to play in this weekend’s state tournament.
They are now the No. 4 seed for Region 3A and will travel to Taylor County (No. 1 seed in Region 2B-A) Saturday to play them in the first round of state. This is the first time since 2004 the Lady ‘Skins have earned a playoff spot.
"I am very proud of our effort," BCHS Coach Mario Mincey said. "A lot of our girls have not been in this kind of pressure situation, so I am proud of the way they kept coming back on them like they did."
Oliva Melvin had 20 points to lead Bryan County. Samantha Howard and Tiffany Howard had 11 each on Friday.
On Saturday, the Red Raiders went on a 20-5 run in the third quarter to pull away.
Melvin led all scorers with 25 points.
