The Richmond Hill High School football team (3-7, 0-6) lost their last game of the season 55-13 to region foe and state powerhouse Washington County (9-1, 5-1) Nov. 6, but Wildcat Coach Lyman Guy said next season is looking bright.

"It wasn’t our best offensive effort by any means," Guy said of the WACO game. "They had a good scheme and we had issues on our coverage. They were probably the most physical team we’ve faced this season."

On the positive side, Guy complimented the Wildcats on having a good goal line stance and moving the ball, although falling short of making several touchdowns.

"Offensively, we drove the ball," Guy said. "We got a glimpse of what we’re capable to be with a year of hard work."

Guy complimented his senior class, saying they have "laid a great foundation for leadership. We had more wins this season than we’ve had in many years, and everyone is excited about next year."

Although nothing is official, talk of the forthcoming region alignment has raised hopes that Richmond Hill is on the verge of a winning season.

Their current region foes are among the most formidable teams in the state.

Although the Wildcats are losing seniors that include Zach Broome, Zach Denney, Matt Wyatt, Albert Reddick, Brian Caulkin and Anthony Young, most of the team is returning. This includes freshman Dominique Allen, who Guy said is an example of "the caliber of athlete you could build a program around."

Other factors that have given the team reason to be excited for next season are the recent addition of charter buses for road trips and new uniforms, which will give the Wildcats a whole new look.

Look for several of this year’s seniors to have some upcoming signing days as well, as numerous college football scouts have expressed interest in several members of the graduating class.
