The Bryan County High football team (0-7, 0-3) saw their winning effort dampened on a wet, soggy field as the nearby Claxton Tigers diminished some Bryan County school spirit by handing BCHS a 20-3 loss for their Homecoming game.

The game started well as Bryan County took a 3-0 lead into halftime on a 36-yard field goal by Cody Crowe. However, the Tigers responded in their own scoring fashion when quarterback Michael Peel hit Chris Bellamy for a 52-yard touchdown pass on the seventh play of the second half drive. The extra-point was no good and the score had moved to 6-3 with Claxton on top.

"Our secondary got a little anxious," BCHS Coach Ron Lewis said. "Claxton’s only pass play they run is called the ‘waggle’ and we practiced for it all week. We were on the sideline yelling ‘waggle’ when they threw it to No. 2. We had a man assigned to No.2 at all times, but he got caught up too much in the game instead of playing his assignment. They also ran to our weak side more in the second half. We’ve got some young linebackers and young defensive backs over there and they found them and went at them."

Claxton forced Bryan County to punt after three plays and the Tigers were moving the ball once again when Joseph Jenkins knocked the ball loose and recovered the fumble to give Bryan County. However, Bryan County fumbled three plays later and Claxton had the ball back after the recovery at the 50-yard line. Claxton sloshed their way down to the Bryan County 3-yard line and snuck it across with 3:59 left in the game. Extra-point was blocked and the game ended with a 20-3 Claxton win.

"I feel for our kids," Lewis said. "Each week they show up for practice, work hard, do what we ask, and then we get in the game and it always seems that one or two mistakes hurt us big time. We had a mess up on the pass play. Maybe it is our younger guys getting overwhelmed or our seniors are trying to do too much. I am proud of them because they play hard every game."

Morgan finished the night with 29 carries for 116 yards for Claxton and Willie DeLoach rushed for 61 yards for Bryan County. The Redskins travel to Portal on Friday, Oct. 23 for another region contest.
