Coach said Redskins ‘should do better this year’ after summer preview

The summer basketball league came to an end on Tuesday, June 30 for the boys of Bryan County High, which finished up their weekly games.
A new coaching staff came in last year for the boys and put them behind in working with the guys, so head coach Allen Clark was glad to have the extra practice time this year.
"We didn't have the advantage of summer practice and play last year since we came on board in September and couldn't practice with the players until October, so it has been nice to be able to work on some little things because once the season starts it goes so fast."
Clark was somewhat discouraged at the number of players that came out and the numbers are not where he would like them to be.
"We had twenty four guys when we started but had to dismiss a few due to disciplinary reasons,” Clark said. “We are not fretting too much since it's only the summer. Some of the nucleus of our team did participate along with some new guys that I think are going to help us. We should do better this year and be more competitive.”
The Redskin boys have been traveling to Vidalia every Tuesday in June and have been able to see some good teams.
"We have seen some very good competition and our guys know now what we mean when about a higher level of competition, because we have seen it and experienced it,” Clark said. “We have taken a pounding in some games due to that competition, but we have also won some games that we should have. I feel good about those wins because they were against teams like us and like teams we will be playing during the season. When we went up against the bigger schools, however, we were definitely at a competitive disadvantage."
Just as most other coaches participating in summer drills, Clark said it is not about winning “as much right now during these scrimmage games, but watching and seeing what each player can do and where they are talent-wise and how they might contribute when the regular season starts. We have been in the gym going over fundamentals and that is where I would rather be right now.”
