The Region 3A high school golf tournament was held on April 20 in Metter for the boys and April 22 at Bacon Park in Savannah for the girls, versus teams from the A and B side of the region. Neither placed high enough to advance to state, which ends the 2009 BCHS golf season.

The leading player throughout the year for the boys of Bryan County High has been Chris Roberts, and he looked as though he would carry the Redskins to a high finish when the round started last week.

"Chris has been our number one player all year and got off to a great start, considering the windy conditions," Redskin golf coach Morgan Jersey said. "He eventually fell behind in the field, however, and didn’t end up with the finish we had hoped for."

Stepping up for the Redskins during this match was their number three player, Brandon Lyons, who played a solid round. Jersey said Lyons "played really well for us and his score of 87 was a good, solid score compared to our other scores. We were expecting him to put in a good performance for us and he surpassed our expectations. He has worked hard all year and will return next year, where he’ll probably move into the number one spot since Chris Roberts is graduating. We already have a good off-season program lined up for him to improve and stay sharp throughout the off -season."

The boys finished fifth out of the ten participating teams while the girls, who have had an up and down year, took sixth place.

"Our girls have not had the work ethic this year that I would have liked to have seen, and it has showed throughout the year and again in the tournament," Jersey said. "Next year, we’ll make some adjustments that will include instilling a better work ethic at practice in order to hopefully become more competitive".

Region 3A had some very good competition from Savannah Christian, Calvary and Savannah Country Day, so BCHS had their work cut out for them.

"Many of these private schools have opportunities and resources that make it hard to compete with in many areas, and that gives them an advantage in many ways," Jersey said. "That being said, we plan to work hard and be a bigger threat in the region next year."
