Despite strong sets of 40 by Tyler Steptoe and Andrew Shoft, the Richmond Hill High School golf team lost a four-way golf match on Monday. Wayne County won with a low score of 159, followed by Effingham 160, South Effingham 165 and RHHS 185.

Wildcat golf coach Alex Gray chalks it up to inexperience and a lack of depth.

This was the first golf match in the county over the last two weeks, based on recent cancellations.

The Redskin linksters are 2-2 on the year as they have swung their way to wins over Tattnall County and Claxton, but came up short against Richmond Hill and South Effingham/Effingham.

"I feel that by the time the region tournament rolls around we should have a pretty good chance to contend," Redskin coach Morgan Jersey said. "We need to continue to focus and get better, and the main thing I see is we need to work on our mental preparation and discipline when it comes to practicing - both on the putting green and driving range."

Chris Roberts leads the Redskins.

"Chris is posting some pretty good scores in spite of battling some illnesses along the way, so I feel that he has yet to put together his best performance," Jersey said. "He can be a top contender throughout the remainder of the season."

In addition to Roberts, BCHS golfers include Josh Norton, Matthew Kennedy, Brandon Lyons and Aaron Stewart on the boys’ side. The Lady Redskin golfers are Shelbi Traywick, Miranda Johnson, Ashley Cobb, Lynn Nelson and Heather Etheridge.
